Hammerhead sharks are probably the most recognizable shark species of all. Their unique appearance makes them a prize among seasoned shark anglers. Another key to their allure is the outrageous size. Hammerheads have been recorded at lengths over 20 feet!! (That puts, “I think we need a bigger boat!” in context, huh?) North Carolina’s coastal waters are home to many hammerheads year-round.
Hammerheads are actually a group of several species of sharks. They include bonnethead sharks, winghead sharks, scalloped hammerhead sharks, scalloped bonnethead sharks, smooth hammerhead sharks, and smalleye hammerhead sharks. Regardless of distinct species, these bad boys are like pulling a steam engine out of the water. Hammerheads offer exceptional battles to angler of all experience levels.
Catch your giant hammerhead this year on the NC Outer Banks. You can check your dates’ availability online or call me anytime at 252-475-0402.
